Dear forum, I had to reinstall Firefox and now a tab opens for every request/every time I open a new page. I don't want it to be like this, but only open a new tab upon explicit request. Where can I change this setting? Thank you, Sirpa

As I run my hand up the lid of my lap top, I OFTEN hit the "X" on the browser and the PAGE CLOSES! I am so frustrated because all my tabs close and I see no way to get them all back open. WHY NOT? I know how to use "HISTORY" and under thT i USED TO BE ABLE TO TAP "RECOVER ALL TABS" i DON'T KNOW WHAT BROWSER that was... And if you had that option, I don't know what happened to it.

On android phones, you can disable the gesture hint (white bar at bottom of screen). Other apps I have tried while having it disabled have no issue. With Firefox however... when gesture hint is off and i swipe up from the bar, my finger is technically swiping at the address bar, which (aside of sending me to home - because that's what the up gesture does on the bottom) opens the tab switcher.

It’s not every link… sometimes it feels like it just turns on suddenly which will get me by surprise because it’ll open past the tab i have open so you cant see it. Until i go up to my tabs and scroll over. The number of tabs i have open just says infinity. I am using iOS ipad version. i just looked in setting and couldn’t find anything that was open a new tab every link. I know this must be some setting somewhere but when you have over 600 tabs open and I attempt to close some of them its driving me insane…

I have about 50 url’s on my address bar which open every time I login. I delete them one by one but next time they pop up again. I tried using the settings but no help. Any ideas how to stop them popping up when I login? This is something that only happened recently. Never before.

Something changed.

When I clicked a link, it would open in a new window. Now it only opens in a new tap. I need it to open in a new window.

I'm using Win 11 with Fire Fox.

I don't know which wrong manipulation I have done, but the "+" sign to create new tabs has disappeared.

Could you please help me to get it back ?

(I know that I can right-click and choose "new tab" in the menu, but the "+"sign is definitely more convenient 😅)

Every time I open Firefox, the checkbox next to "Opening links in tabs" always disappears, even though I've checked it in previous sessions. How can I make it permanent?

I use Firefox on the Linux Mint operating system.

I have lots (~100) of tabs open, distributed among windows and virtual desktops. Every now and then the laptop fan starts running wildly, and I identify a CPU hogging webpage in about:processes. How can I now switch to the open window/tab of that webpage to close or unload it? I would expect a click (or context menu item) within about:processes to bring me there. Currently I have to scan through all desktops/windows/tabs to find the page.

I haven't been able to move tabs around for days. Not since I tried to take some 'out' to make a new window, and Firefox straight up crashed ...repeatedly. After I gave up, I noticed the tabs no longer moved.

I ignored it a few days, but its frankly very annoying! I checked for answers & found an old post from 5 yrs ago here & followed the advice. Or I tried to, but when I checked "browser.tabs.allowTabDetach" in "about:config" it was already set to "true". I even toggled it a few times (I even tried to see if it would move when set to false! ...counterintuitive, but I figured it was worth a try?)

Anyhow "browser.tabs.allowTabDetach" is still set to true, and I'm not about to go monkeying with all that :\

(fair warning, while I know how to alter a config under clear instructions ...my experience with such things starts and ends with the config files for Stardew Valley mods)

Hi! I´m a big shortcut user and a year-long Firefox fan and user. Now it´s the first time I´m using an Android tablet (Boox Tab X C) and the typical shortcuts for new tab (Ctrl + T), close tab (Ctrl + W), etc. do not work. I researched this a little and it seems to be by design. Why do you forsake us, Firefox god??

The Alt-<number> keyboard shortcut is used to switch between tabs. However, the key event used to switch a tab seems to also propagate down to the content itself. This creates weird interactions:

- I switch to third tab - The web page running in the third tab actually uses Alt-3 to do something - After switching tabs the web page does something unexpected because the browser chrome didn't swallow the event during its tab-switching procedure.

The most irritating candidate seems to be XenForo forum software that uses Alt-<number> to go to different sections in its menubar. For example, alt-4 seems to open a search page and going there provides no new entry in the browser history. So, if I've tab-opened the forum to display new posts and then later I switch to it using Alt-4, it makes the content go to its search panel with no way to go back to new posts. Ironically, switching _away_ from the tab 4 does not register to the content so I can't even use the forum's own keyboard shortcuts to navigate back to new posts section or any other section. Having the forum in tab X will only ever let the forum see Alt-X and nothing else.

This all stems from the fact that Firefox lets the initial tab-switching key event through whereas I think it shouldn't. It maybe should if the corresponding tab is already active but it certainly shouldn't when a tab-switch actually occurs.

I've obviously disabled the content's capability to override keyboard shortcuts but it doesn't help in this because the content is not overriding anything: it seems to be just listening to a keyboard event that it shouldn't see.

Did I miss some option in about:config or do others see this as well?

I can not seem to find the button to open a saved, closed tab group. I have googled, and there seems to be a lot of people with the same issue. However, None of the information given under those forums provides me with a clear, easy solution. Please help.

I really can't add to my Summary other than it's a fairly recent issue, started in May 2026, possible April. About.config is set to False. I hope some has a solution - it happens when I'm dealing with live incidents.
