eature Request / Usability Issue: Ability to directly "Save" (overwrite) edited local PDFs instead of only "Save As"

Hi,

When editing or annotating a local PDF in Firefox's built-in viewer, pressing Ctrl + S (or clicking the save icon) only triggers a "Save As" prompt instead of saving changes directly to the original file.

Manually selecting the source folder and confirming the overwrite dialog every time adds a lot of friction to reading and annotation workflows.

Could we get a native "Save" (in-place overwrite) option alongside "Save As" for locally opened PDF files?

Thanks!

Save to PDF suddenly cannot save to any external or network drives

I am trying to save a webpage as a PDF, which is something I do regularly and have done countless times in Firefox.

But Firefox's "Save to PDF" function no longer saves/creates PDFs on any of my external or network drives.

It will save/create PDFs on my primary system drive and even on iCloud. It just does not work with any of my external or network drives.

This same problem is happening on both of my primary computers: (1) Apple M4 Pro, Golden Gate 27.0.1, Firefox 158.0.1 (aarch64) (2) Apple M2 Pro, Tahoe 26.7.1, Firefox 158.0.1 (aarch64)

My best guess is that this problem started with Firefox 157.01 or 158.0 (October 6–13, 2026). I did not notice the problem until October 18, 2026.

Additional troubleshooting info:

There are no error notifications or any other indication that the PDF has failed to save (aside from going to the chosen save path on the external or network drive to check).

The problem persists even with the "Print using the system dialog" option.

I can save web pages (complete or HTML) from Firefox to my external and network drives via the "Save Page As..." function. The problem occurs only with PDFs via the "Save to PDF" function.

Google Chrome's "Save to PDF" function works with all drives, using either its own or the system print dialog.

I tried clean reinstalls of Firefox.

I tried clearing Firefox's print settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! This is a serious problem for me.
