I have tried using the troubleshooting guide suggestions without success. The email is not on the server as verified by webmail, but still resides in my local inbox. Can I manually access the database offline and delete this email? I have two other gmail accounts that are part of my Thunderbird email client version 140.5.0esr (32-bit).

I am using Thunderbird 115.5.2 (64-bit) on an older iMac on OS 10.12. I have four email address accounts, all gmail, and using POP. I have stored emails I wanted to keep in sub folders in Local Folders. This has all worked well for years.

Yesterday I lost lost all content from some of the subfolders in Local Folders, while some retained some content and a few seem intact. I also lost most emails that had arrived in the inboxes in the last week. The folder pane still shows the accounts, with their own set of folders. As usual, the inbox folders are highlighted with the number of new emails downloaded from the Gmail server to each address, but I can not see them in the message pane, or find them anywhere else. I sent a test message from one of my addresses to another – It didn't show as sent in Thunderbird, but did go through the gmail server and the message count of downloaded messages on the recipient address went up by one, but I couldn't see the email. Then I tried clicking on the folder "properties" then 'Repair Folder' but nothing happened, although the information on that window showed the number of messages and MB that I would expect to be in that folder, rather than what was there, which presumably means they may still be in there somewhere? I would be very grateful for help – I'm not tech savvy and feeling completely lost.

I have been having using Thunderbird as my email package for over 10 years and lately have been having issues. I was looking to cleanup the install (version 140.5 esr) and noticed an older version of the app still exist on the computer (version 68.4). will deleting this version have any implications. This computer was originally Windows 10 but has been upgraded to Windows 11 when the problems seemed to start appearing.

I really don't know where to go, but I hope you can help. I do realize that when two products are involved it is 'THE OTHER GUY causing my problem. I've encountered it in the past. I use Mailwasher Pro to preview my incoming mail. It marks some important mails as Comcast/junk. I delete the real junk and leave those on the list of mails I want to download, and decide whether those are worth keeping (many are) after fully reading them. Thunderbird bypasses these on my incoming mail list. It seems to me that if there is mail to download, Thunderbird should do exactly that. How can I manage this, please?

I'm dealing with a properly updated 'bird: 140.5.0 (32-bit) running on an equally updated Windows 10 desktop. First thing this morning, out of nowhere, I started getting an "unable to write the email to the mailbox..." message when sending, thus I could send but not save. And then I realized I wasn't receiving either, on all three accounts in my Thunderbird. I stopped everything and focused on trying to fix this. It's been an all-day, losing effort. So far.

I tried the various quick checks and fixes recommended here and there: I'm running the program as an administrator. I restarted the program. I rebooted the computer. I think I have enough disk space, but to be sure I deleted some bloat from possibly overly large files. I compacted, even though the program is configured to do that regularly. I temporarily disabled my antivirus program. I went into my webmail and deleted all messages that have arrived since my Thunderbird stopped receiving, in case one of them was corrupted. And probably some other attempts as well. Nothing has helped.

And now a second, even worse issue has fallen from the sky. Thunderbird opens. The folder list is where it always has been. The number of unopened messages in each folder is there in boldface, as always, but...the folders are all blank and I get the dreaded popup: "unable to open the summary file...." Have I lost my years' worth of carefully curated emails?

I've tried folder repair. I've deleted parent.lock. Etc. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing.

I will be super-grateful for any wisdom sent my way.

I have 2 emails provided by my ISP (knology), I have received no emails since 7:30 on 12/5, the are on the webmail site. The other 2 emails are gmail accounts they are working fine. I am getting a message, "The certificate for imap.knology.net is not valid for that server. Someone could be impersonating the server, you should not continue."

The fact that the gmails work and knology does not work is a clue but I don't know what it means.

I have contacted my ISP and after 45 minutes they gave up and said they will escalate and get back to me,

with in a couple days! it was on a Saturday.

Thunderbird Cannot Authenticate Gmail Workspace Account (OAuth Window Never Opens)

Hello,

I am requesting assistance with a persistent issue in Thunderbird involving a Google Workspace (Gmail) account for my domain, dantanas.com.

Incoming IMAP works correctly. However, outgoing SMTP authentication fails every time.

Symptoms

The Google OAuth login window never appears when Thunderbird attempts to authenticate SMTP.

Sending mail produces the error: “Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP). Please check the password and verify the authentication method.”

IMAP works normally, but SMTP never prompts for OAuth authentication.

Thunderbird also does not allow me to have a Junk/Spam folder for this account — the option appears disabled or unavailable.

Current configuration Thunderbird is using

SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com Port: 465 or 587 Security: SSL/TLS or STARTTLS Authentication: OAuth2 User: max@dantanas.com

IMAP Server: imap.gmail.com Port: 993 Security: SSL/TLS Authentication: OAuth2

What I have already done

Verified DNS MX and DKIM records on the domain (email receiving works).

Confirmed I can log in to the account in a browser with no issues.

Tried both port 465 and 587.

Removed and re-added SMTP servers in Thunderbird.

Forced Thunderbird to attempt OAuth2 authentication, but the OAuth window never appears.

Tested other clients, which authenticate correctly — suggesting the issue is specific to Thunderbird.

Expected behavior

Thunderbird should open a Google OAuth browser window to authenticate SMTP. This never occurs, which prevents SMTP from working entirely.

Request

Could you please advise:

Why Thunderbird does not open the Google OAuth authentication window for SMTP?

Whether there is a known issue affecting Google Workspace OAuth in Thunderbird?

How to reset or repair Thunderbird’s OAuth behavior?

Why Thunderbird does not allow the creation or use of a Junk/Spam folder for this account?

Any guidance would be appreciated. I’ve spent considerable time troubleshooting, and resolving the OAuth prompt issue is essential for SMTP functionality.

Thank you, Max Makowski max@dantanas.com

Recently I have noticed some changes in the way my Thunderbird downloads POP3 messages. Previously, it would be common to ask for new messages once a day and receive upwards of one hundred of them. But in the last month, this number has been limited to about 35 at a time. If I ask immediately again, I get about 35 more, and this pattern continues as long as there are messages in queue waiting to be downloaded. I am not sure if this is due to changes in gmail, where most of my received messages originate, or to changes in Thunderbird itself, or to some sort of third-party hack. Now that I have trained myself to keep on asking until there are no more messages coming down, this change does not cause me much difficulty, although initially it sometimes caused me to overlook messages because I failed to keep asking as long as I should have. Apart from that, it does not seem to be harmful as far as I can tell. I'd just like to know if other people have noticed anything similar, and if anyone knows what is causing it, and whether it has some hidden advantages over the way things used to work.

I've been wanting to access Thunderbird's encryption ability on both my laptop and desktop. However, in setting up Tbird on my laptop I notice the user Profile should stay on one computer. Can I use the same Profile on more than one computer using the same source and password? Can I open a new profile on a second computer, even though I would have to use the same email source, a local provider? If not, is there an online source of email data I can use on Tbird on my laptop. Thanks much, Bruce Bartrug

Running Thunderbird 140.5.0esr

This has been happening for a few weeks now somewhat randomly. The folders under Mail for one of my accounts keep moving around and are not in alphabetical order anymore. Most folders are OK, but a few either jump to the top of bottom of the list. I can manually drag them back, only for different folders to do it the next time.

The folders in questions are 2 levels down from Mail.
