My computer suddenly started the above error message for multiple programs. The local computer shop was able to sort out what appeared to be the root cause and that recovered some things but I still needed to reinstall a number of programs.

The program I am terrified of reinstalling is Thunderbird. All my emails on five email accounts since 2011 are stored in TB and I naturally do not want to lose any of them.

The major problems are the computer is running Win7 Enterprise and I am 82 years old so I am prone to needing things spelt out in greater detail than many others.

Can anyone provide a way to reset the program permissions (preferable) or identify the best way to reinstall and still access all my historic emails?

Thank you

Hi, I have used "takeout" years before but not one of these.

https://www.google.com/search?q=download+Gmail+MBOX+viewer+tool&oq=download+Gmail+MBOX+viewer+tool&gs_lcrp=EgRlZGdlKgYIABBFGDkyBggAEEUYOdIBCTE5NzE5ajBqMagCALACAA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Can I keep folder integrity using one of these? And how if not obvious.

Quota is high.

Thanks

My emails were all working (accounts were setup fine). Then, recently, when I opened Thunderbird, the main area (where my messages are displayed) is empty. If I choose another folder, still empty. BUT, the folders all say that there are messages in them (see the attached screenshot)

I have tried the following... 1. Opening Thunderbird in Troublshooting mode: This works, and the messages appear. But I don't want to have to open troubleshooting mode every time. 2. I have ZERO extensions installed, so asking to disable them obviously wont do anything. 3. I have tried to repair the folders (I have tried to repair the default inbox folder, and then tried to repair them all ... nothing worked). 4. I have backed up my thunderbird files, and tried reinstalling Thunderbird. Still didn't work. 5. I tried these three steps ... https://www.mboxtooutlook.org/blog/thunderbird-inbox-missing-emails.html Didn't work either.

Any other suggestions?

Starting Feb 8, 2026 my yahoo accounts no longer work in Thunderbird. I have accessed these for over a dozen years using Thunderbird. In addition, when I open Thunderbird at all I end up getting endless loops of yahoo login messages. The mechanisms in the messages do not work at all. I have received no Yahoo mail since that date. To troubleshoot the issue I tried logging into the accounts directly through Yahoo. Broken, with no access at all to any help resource from Yahoo. Although Yahoo seems to be keeping mum on the problems, there is spotty information online that Yahoo servers were breached a few days ago. One report claimed that user data for about a billion accounts was compromised. I suppose that may explain why my accounts no longer work anywhere- neither from Yahoo itself nor within Thunderbird. Is there a way to disable the incapacitating yahoo popups pending any larger solution to this?

I can't seem to find the way to set or adjust (vertical) line-spacing in the body of the message. The lines "collapse" on each other. (see the attachment) I have unchecked the "Use paragraph format..." checkbox. Can't adjust it with the small / large "T" controls on the formatting bar; and I haven't found any setting (or combination of settings) to control or adjust this attribute. FWIW, it happens both when I paste-in text and when I type-in the text. Suggestions?

Hello, I have two microsoft email addresses linked to Thunderbird, one @hotmail.com and one @outlook.com. I have been using Thunderbird with them both fine for some time. Recently, the outlook.com account has stopped sending emails via Thunderbird. As far as I can tell, this was out of nowhere, and I hadn't changed any settings. It still receives emails.

Both accounts use the same SMTP information, and the hotmail.com continues to work with those details.

I have tried changing the settings and even deleting and readding the account but it hasn't fixed it. I have also checked the outlook account is still IMAP and POP enabled and it is.

When I do try and send an email, I am told: "Login to server smtp.office365.com with username [edited]@outlook.com failed. with options to Retry, Enter New Password (which loads a new window briefly but then disappears) and Cancel."

When I cancel, I get this message: "Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.office365.com timed out. Try again."

My server settings, on both accounts, are: smtp.office365.com Port 587 STARTTLS OAuth2 And the user name matches the email.

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong, and how I could fix it? Thank you!

Having used Outlook for over 20 years I have over 500 folders and thousands of emails. Is there a way to tell how many folders and emails I have? Can Thunderbird handle such a large import, maintain my folders and their hierarchy, and the maintain the emails stored in them?

I use Pop3 and have about 30 email accounts. Is that an issue? Does Thunderbird import all of the account settings?

Can I run both Thunderbird and Outlook simultaneously to determine if Thunderbird has imported everything and the migration is complete and fully functioning?

I read someone had a problem importing because their Outlook was 32 bit versus 64. How do I tell if mine is one or the other?

Do you know of any other import issues/problems?

This has been happening for a long long time - probably a few years' worth of versions. I have just put up with it... currently running Tbird 147 and it just happened.

When editing an email (either the body or the Subject), if you use the backspace button (the one that deletes to the left) to delete some text sometimes the cursor will incorrectly be positioned about 5 or 6 characters further left than it should.

For example, if I had the text: "Quick brown fox jumps over the moon"

If I were to highlight "fox" in the above example, and hit backspace, I would expect the cursor to end up positioned between the remaining spaces after 'brown' ( pipe symbol here is meant to represent the cursor position): "brown | jumps"

But instead what happens is that the cursor ends up somewhere among/before the word "brown". It's always further left than it should be, by 5 or 6 characters.

I believe it only happens when highlighting multiple characters and then hitting backspace. It may be more (only?) prevalent when editing/replying to an existing email. (But I'm still only editing the new portions that I add at the top of the email; I'm almost never editing in amongst the original quoted email content.)

I also haven't ever been able to figure out how to make it happen, sorry. It is just random...It will happen once in an email, but then not again. But it happens frequently - 3-6 times a day perhaps. (Depends on how many emails I am editing.  :) )

I don't believe that I have noticed this issue if I were using the Delete button (deletes things to the right). I don't think it happens when backspacing one character at a time...but it might. I also use Option-Backspace to delete whole words at a time (instead of highlighting the word); not exactly sure if it happens only if highlighting a word, or only if Option-Backspace, or single key press... sorry, it is so random and unexpected that I don't have more specifics.
