When I click on a mailto: link on websites, it defaults to an old email address that I am phasing out. So every time I click on a mailto: link, TB opens a new email using the old email address, and I need to remember to click on the list of my email accounts and select a different one.

How can I change the email address that is the default?

I have a Windows 10 machine, have been using Thunderbird and pobox for years.

In case you're not familiar with pobox, it is a mail forwarding service; I pay for an email address and they forward email to up to three servers. I've thereby kept the same email address for a very long time, just changed the address(es) they forward to as I change ISPs, etc. At some point I quit using my ISPs server for my email and just used the one at pobox.com. Pobox was purchased by Fastmail, and so they have some new server names; my old ones have continued to work on my current system.

I use POP3 instead of IMAP because I want the email on my machine, not on a server somewhere. I configured Thunderbird to do this long ago, and so I don't remember details; I've been depending on being able to extract any needed information from its configuration. I am confident I have the password correct; I can log into the web interface to my email, and the password works there.

My new machine is a dual-boot Win11/Ubuntu; my plan is to use the Ubuntu machine almost exclusively and only boot Win11 when necessary. I want to move email operations to the new Ubuntu machine.

I've read info on moving Thunderbird; I find the profiles on the source machine, move up two directory levels, find the equivalent directory on the new machine, copy with replace. I found:

c:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird

on the Win10 machine, and

Home/snap/thunderbird/common/.thunderbird

on the Ubuntu machine, so I copied the files from the first to the second.

Having done that, when I start up Thunderbird, it displays a page saying "Set up your existing email address". If I do that, of course, it will create a new profile, and I still won't have the old one. I've tried creating it manually, but (a) I don't know how I will then merge it with an old profile and my thousands of email messages, and (b) I'm having trouble figuring out the incoming and outgoing server settings. I remember struggling with that back on Win7 or whenever it was.

Anyway. Anyone got suggestions on what might be going wrong here?

Whenever I search something and there is a youtube video included in the search results, all links direct to that video. In the example image it show me hovering over a website link and in the bottom left hand corner it instead tries to open a youtube link at the bottom of the page.

I am trying to upgrade from ESR to Release. I saved my profile successfully, went to the install page and clicked Download. Got a request to donate, which I did. Then I got a page saying Thank you, Finish installing and enjoy Thunderbird. But there is no way to finish installing and I never got a download file. I've tried multiple times, nothing happens. Help!

Thunderbird 145.0 (64 bit) with Windows 11 Pro.

In the message editor window, new message or reply or forward, when I want to insert a hyperlink using either CTRL+K or via the Insert menu, a popup window to insert the link into does not appear, and the write windows hangs. Becomes unresponsive. The only way to close it is by ending the task in Task Manager. I notice a crash helper in the Thunderbird group in Task Manager. Everything is on 0% CPU though.

What went on before this is that I modified the property editor.link_color in the config editor (because links are not readable in dark mode, but that's a different story). I then did reset it to default and restarted TB, then pc and TB, that did not help.

In troubleshooting mode, there is no problem. In normal mode, I deleted the only plugin I had (a theme) I cleared cache, refreshed Thunderbird, to no avail. It's not set up to generate crash reports yet.

I have TB on another machine (W10 Pro), I can copy my profile folder over quite easily.

Any suggestions please?

(I'm on Central European time, it may be a day or so before I respond to replies from the US.)

I have today encountered a reproducible issue with Firefox 145.0.2 (64-bit) on my system (CachyOS Linux). Whenever I press the "Print" button in the printing dialog for a PDF file, the browser freezes and no longer reacts to anything. I had to kill the process manually and try again. I have then downloaded the PDF and opened a different application to print it - that worked fine. Is this a known issue with Firefox? Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

I already tried resetting the printer settings in the browser, but that did not change anything.

I have an unfamiliar name on my Thunderbird account of g*******k@hughes.net (I do not know this account) and I am able to see the inbox of this email on my computer in Thunderbird. I have been working with Hughesnet as I was without email service since 11/17/25 and have just been able to now Receive emails since 11/25/25, but am unable to SEND outgoing emails. Hughesnet requested that I contact Mozilla support as to the outgoing email issue - and the unfamiliar name on my Thunderbird account. Please help with this situation. For about 2 weeks, EVERY time I try to write an email, after typing a few lines or so, the whole window 'grays out' and becomes UN-responsive. I get no error message. Waiting for it to respond doesn't work and I have to close out and re-start Thunderbird. Sometimes Thunderbird will have saved some portion of my email in my 'Drafts' folder, but not reliably, so I have to frequently 'Control + S' - save it to avoid having to re-type the entire message again. Troubleshoot Mode doesn't help, nor does clearing the cache. I've been hoping an update would come up that would solve this, either from Thunderbird or Windows (11), but not so far. Please tell me how I should resolve this - I have used Thunderbird for years (and regularly contribute too) and don't want to have to change to different email client.

Wife's computer died, but I saved the HDD. Got Tbird installed on the new one, retrieved and installed her addressbook on the new computer. Apparently she had a had a folder with saved messages on the old one. Where do I find this on the old harddrive? Recent version of Tbird on old computer, newest iteration on new computer. I have the original hard drive in hot swappable bay right now.

Long time Thunderbird user. My address is @verizon.net, which is controlled by AOL.This morning, although I am having no trouble with mail on my iPhone, when I try to send from my laptop I get the message, "The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.verizon.net was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again." Trying after a while is no different. Having no trouble with incoming messages on this device. Thoughts?

So I started using Firefox on my older and newer laptops, but I've noticed that on my older laptop it has started giving me the message "You must log in to this network before you can access the internet", although I am already signed in on my Mozilla account there too. My newer laptop has had no issues for the record. Both systems are running windows 11, both have the same account that I am using, etc. If it makes any difference, my older laptop is using an ethernet cable whilst the newer one is connected via Wi-Fi. When I ran into this issue yesterday on my old laptop, the issue somehow resolved itself after I created a bugzilla account, although I am unsure if this was coicidence, so now I am confused why the issue has showed up again. Awaiting any kind of help or advice, thank you.

hi i have 2 pc's using tb , one can sign in to my outlook.com acct, but the desktop pc can not. have checked all setting etc

the working installation is on esr update channel, other on is not [so i have 2 difference tb versions]. both are updated

if anyone sees in a forum that i had email trouble recently pls note that i now have an old backup of win10 in service on the desktop pc. haven't yest found my way back to that forum to post the results of using peoples advice but they were very helpful
