Have run thunderbird on winxp for years. Running ubuntu now and tb 24.4.0. The delete function will not work at all under any circumstances I can discover.

Try to rebuild the index file of the troubled folder. Right-click the folder - Properties - Repair Folder

I already tried that. Tried it again, and again. How can one flush TB from the system?
