Gmail zte open

Posted

Hi, not going to rant as I really like my ZTE Open, I've managed to update it to v1.1 via the ZTE update files, however, I now seem to have a real issue with my gmail, the emails download however, opening them can be very sporadic, sometimes they will open after about 10 minutes, sometimes not at all. I have tried all the previous suggestions, but they do not seem to resolve the issue, please could you help? The only other issue I have is that the latest update to marketplace fails, is there a work around for this?

Thanks.

There was a previous post which suggested a soft reset, tried that with no luck, it also suggested entering the Gmail settings manually, again, this didn't work and finally there was a suggestion to do a factory reset from the settings menu, I tried this as well and still no joy. Apparently this is also an issue for Hot mail users, so I'm surprised there aren't more support calls about this...

Cheers.

With regard to the OTA updates, I am in UK and purchased my phone from eBay, OTA updates are not an option. I was wondering whether there was going to be a stock ROM for version 1.2 and beyond available? Rather than having to fan my about with loading the android update software, then taking control of the phone and using terminal mode to update to 1.2???

Is there any further responses to this? As version 1.1 no longer allows me to view my email and I have lost my mobile data service, whereas I had both of these on version 1.0!! Any help gratefully received!!

Hi BobbyOrange, Thank you for your question. So I just did two tests:

  1. Tested a 1.2 build with email and flawlessly set up email with the current password.
  2. Tested another device with the 1.1 and had some issues.

I then reset my password and it worked just fine on 1.1. However it does lead me to make a few hypothesis of what may be going wrong. When you enter the password are there any capitalization that may be wrong?

If you have lost the mobile data service, I would recommend going to an open network and make sure wifi is on.

For the ebay ZTE open phones there is a build for 1.2. https://hacks.mozilla.org/2014/01/upgrading-your-zte-open-to-firefox-1...

Thanks for this, you've inspired me to mess about with my phone this morning and bizzarely enough, I have managed to get it to work, in a weird kind of way!!

By switching on Aeroplane mode and switching off again after a while, I have my Data Service back(???), am going to test it for today and repost later with my results (am only in a 2g area at the moment, want to see what happens when I get to a 3g area). But here's the weid thing, with regard to Gmail, my emails appear and can be opened when I've got a mobile data connection (albeit slowly, re: 2g statement above), however, when I switch to wifi, they go back to either not opening or taking a dogs age!! Any ideas why this should be? On the whole though, now that I've got mobile data and (sort of) emails back again, I'm over the moon :-) (I'm not counting my chickens though, will repost later with my results). Thanks for your help!!

BobbyOrange, I am happy to hear you were over the moon for a bit there, darn to the email not working over wifi after some time of use. After reading the bugs below, there is no error message found yet in these reported bugs. And these are not the issue that you are experiencing, but they are really similar.

  • Bug 909233 - [Buri][Email]Device can not refresh the mail
  • Bug 888807 - [email/backend] Refactor use of account operations and mutexes to avoid apparent UI delays or per-folder hangs

Please let us know about the 1.2 experience or if you need help with this update, we are happy to help. If it continues in 1.2 we can capture logs.

I gave up on 1.2 as I just couldn't get my head around the update, just want a stable 1.2 or 1.3 (hoping!!) release available for the ZTE Open...

BobbyOrange, do you happen to use 2 step verification for gmail authentication?
