I download Thunderbird from the Mozilla site, version 24 for mac os x but when I tried to install it I got the error message - Cannot use this version on this copy of OS X.

I managed to download and install Thunderbird 3.1 and have set it up but I get a message about that version becoming obsolete soon.

I need an alternative to Mac Mail as it is hanging when trying to send e-mails. Thunderbird appears to have cured this but if I cannot update it I wll be no better off.

Also I would like Thunderbird to import settings, messages, etc from mac mail, would this happen with a newer version?

Thanks

Chosen solution

Thunderbird 17 and 24 requires MAC OSX 10.6 or newer and Intel. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/24.0/system-requirements/ https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/17.0/system-requirements/

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/16.0/system-requirements/

If you have a Intel and hardware that meets requirements you could upgrade to OSX 10.6 for say $20 as this will allow you to run the current Thunderbird 24.3.0 and Firefox 27.0.1

Thunderbird does not supported Mac OS X 10.5 anymore since version 17. So your best bet is to download version 16.

ftp://archive.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/16.0.2/mac/

Thunderbird 3.1 is obsolete since quite a while, and TB16 isn't supported anymore either. So use it at your own risk.

In case your machine still has a PPC CPU check this topic.

Thanks for both replies.

I will look into upgrading OS X.

I think the underlying problem is at the BT server and am chasing this with BT.
