Is this on your Windows 7 system?

Many add-ons will rudely change your home page, replace your search engine, show up on new tabs, and worse.

But first, could you check when this unwanted page shows up:

  • Start up Firefox from its icon, any new window opened using Ctrl+n
  • Start up Firefox from its icon only

In the first case, check for an unwanted extension, including anything like a Community Toolbar, on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if it's nonessential or unrecognized, disable.

Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that show your home page or let you change your home page?

In the second case, check your Firefox icon for tampering. Right-click > Properties > Shortcut tab. The "Target" field should be very simple, just this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe"

If there is web address after that, remove it.

Any progress?

I think you are talking about the New Tab Page

  1. Go to Tools >> Option >> General >> "When the Firefox starts:" change to "Show a blank page" or go to about:config page search for this option "browser.startup.homepage" change its value to about:blank
  2. Go to Tools>>Options>>Privacy, on "Firefox will:" change to "Remenber history"
  3. Now restart Firefox
  4. Surf a bit, then open a new tab or go to your home page, you will see the New Tab:
