When I opened Firefox today, a tab opened (http://quickjavaplugin.blogspot.com/2013/09/quickjava-20.html) recommending that I add the QuickJava 2.0 extension. Is this ok/safe?

hello jlbjazz, in principle you should only add extensions you trust & use. when the site you've mentioned showed up it means you already had the quickjava addon installed - it was just a notice about the new features that came with the automatic update of the addon to a newer version...
