White box loads over web pages

Upon loading up any website i am also greeted with a white box that covers almost all of the screen with a X in the top right, as if it was an advertisement but it's just white. it happens on every page e.g. Amazon, Youtube, Facebook. At first i thought it was a virus but Avast detects no threats, I have also tried restoring my Laptop to an earlier date, and it still occurs. I have a picture but I don't know if i can post it on here so there's a link: http://imgur.com/7a612L7 any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

While searching for rogue software, don't overlook your Firefox add-ons as a potential culprit. Some extensions may sneak in unnoticed. You can review and (if unnecessary or unrecognized) disable them here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Hi slashcross, thanks for reporting back. If you recall the name, could you post it here for future reference? People often find these threads in Google searches, etc.
