Desktop sync is broken and instructs to obtain "Your Recovery Key" from a working device. Only working device is Android Firefox. What is the magic incantation to get Firefox (v21 beta) on Android to reveal the needed sync Recovery Key?

Chosen solution

I had the same exact issue and just resolved it. Here is what I did:

  1. Log into https://account.services.mozilla.com/ with the user name and password you previously created.
  2. On the left hand side of the screen choose "Delete Your Account."
  3. Confirm you want to delete the account.
  4. GO to Firefox-Options--Options--Sync
  5. Create a new account and accept the terms.
  6. After you get the message that the account was created open sych on your phone and the pair will be smooth.

You can use:

  • Android OS > Settings > Accounts > Firefox Sync > Pair a new Device

This will give you a 12-character pairing key the you can enter in the desktop computer.

You can look at this version of the about:synckey extension that I have modified to show the sync key in current Firefox versions (desktop and mobile).

  • Android OS > Settings > Accounts > Firefox Sync > Pair a new Device

Doesn't give me a 12-character pairing key unfortunately. It just shows 3 blank entry fields and expects me to enter something. What i need is the Recovery Key that I can enter into the Desktop computer.

Appreciate your help and offer of the modified addon. But the correct answer surely can't be to tell people to install potentially security breaching software from the internet to recover from this situation?

Ended up doing the same thing, which is a bit of a nuclear option when all that is required is for sync on Android to work the same as on the desktop. But in the end, it's better just to have a working system than grouse about little nits like this. Thanks for taking the time to make a concise post with your answer. Cheers.

Thanks to your instructions I now have my Firefox Sync account deleted. I created a new account but I don`t have the data from the previous account. It means I have a blank account wothout any passwords and I have a new account wothout any passowrds. That ripped me off my passwords and any hope of recovering them. What can you advice now, please?
