This doesn't sound like a Firefox problem. Are you trying to use Office to open your Excel files? contact Microsoft support.

Is this happening when you try to open an excel file from within Firefox? I can do that with Internet Explorer, all versions. However, Firefox seems incapable of dealing with .xls files. For example, if I have a.sql file that I want to read with Excel, I can do that with no problem from within IE. It displays the excel file fine. Firefox simply ignores the request. It does not respond.
