why don't certain downloads appear in my downloads window?

certain downloads do not appear in my downloads window.

the latest example: my inability to download the latest flashplayer--11.2.202.235--from the adobe website. my current version is 11.2.202.233. i have firefox 12.0

i have tried the suggestions here, but, regrettably, i've had no success. and no success in trying to update it in windows explorer 8.

i wud be grateful if a firefox expert and/or moderator provides detailed information about how i can accomplish this. and, if there isn't a workable way, what alternative do i and other 12.0 users have?

thank you.

Chosen solution

Can't you download and save the Flash installer or can't you install that player.

You can find the latest Flash player for Firefox on this page.

You need the 32 bit Flash version version.

It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.

Just to separate the issues: if the download is missing from the Downloads window, is it also missing from the location where you saved it (e.g., desktop or Downloads folder)?

If you open Windows Explorer to the relevant folder, can you see the download in progress -- usually a .part file will appear? If that file vanishes and the final file never appears, it's possible that your security software or some other external software is removing the download.

Note: if you use one of the IETab extensions, actions taken in those tabs may not be accurately reflected in Firefox's history (including download history). Try accessing Adobe's site without using IETab.

Finally, you should be able to download both installers (the one for IE and the one for all other browsers) from this page: http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/ Of course, make sure to uncheck the bonus software offer to avoid installing unwanted software. Edit: cor-el's page is a bit more direct to get to specific versions.

i am stymied. i want to stick with firefox

i have tried all of your download suggestions, but i cannot locate the downloaded files anywhere. suggestions?

Is Firefox giving you the choice of where to save the files you download?

If not, they should be in the folder specified here under "Save files to":

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > General

To choose the download folder yourself, click the radio button for "Always ask me where to save files" and OK the change.

  • hello,

my question has nothing to do with downloading flash player updates [that problem solved earlier].

when ever i download a file, the downloads window is not displayed.

under tools/options, i checked "show the downloads window when downloading a file," and "always ask me where to save files." in previous ff versions, all downloaded files were saved in the downloads window, but i can't recall where resided

is this the only reasonable solution: "Save files to [and fill in the blank]. i chose "C:\Documents and Settings\ken brief\Desktop\DOWNLOADS." does this mean that the downloads window will appear on my desktop in a folder?

how do i accomplish this, so i always can click on the downloads window to see what's there? i'm using ff 12.0, lenovo x201 laptop, windows xp pro, sp3.

thanks to cor-el and others who helped me solved the flash update issues

3.

The downloads window can be opened using

Ctrl+j

Alt+t (display classic Tools menu) > Downloads

Does that open it?

I don't know why the window isn't displaying automatically if you have selected that option.

hi, jschjer2000, and thanks. your suggestions work just fine.

i, too, don't know why the downloads window doesn't display automatically, given the options i had selected [listed above, prior to your email].

further thoughts welcome, but at least i have a solution!

hello, again, j.scher,

your suggested shortcuts work fine, but...

when i click on "tools/downloads," i two downloads are are displayed, one from june 7, and the other from may 30; https://mail-attachment.googleusercontent.com/attachment/[I omitted the details for privacy's sake. this one is impossible to open, but it's not a biggie.

the other, related problem occurs] when i click "save files to: C:\Documents and Settings\ken brief\Desktop\DOWNLOADS." that window shows only 2 other downloads, one from may 30 and the other from june 30.

on a day when i lost it, i created this file in internet explorer, which i rarely use, don't ask me why. it contains a couple of dozen downloads. it's now in my quick launch bar with an icon i found in windows.: fC:\Documents and Settings\ken brief\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch.

if you're sick of this, i'll understand if you give up. it looks like i messed up big time.

i'd like to start from the beginning, if you and/or others would advise me..

thanx.

Regarding the downloads list, if it keeps losing items, either you may have Firefox or an add-on or an external program set to clear your download history, or the Filefox database that stores downloads might be corrupted. We should definitely try to get that fixed.

Do you notice downloads disappearing during the same session (i.e., before you close Firefox), or only between sessions (i.e., downloads listed before you close Firefox are missing after you restart it)?

Regarding the "save" option. Where does that appear?

Do you have Firefox set to always save in the same location, or to ask you where to save? This is set here:

orange Firefox button or classic Tools menu > Options > General

If you have Firefox ask you where to save, it doesn't always return to the same location each time. Instead, it tries to remember the last location for different web sites. So files you've saved may be in various places.

Could you explain in more detail what is on your Quick Launch now that is related to Firefox downloads?
