firefox 8.0.1 on Max 10.5.8 page won't load, not responding (beach ball). Tried safe mode still fails. What now?!)

Deleted recent history; re-installed FF to no avail. On startup window opens to FF home and immediately freezes. Have to Force Quit. No crash information stored.
