Please do the following. These are both direct links, so you won't see a site, but I've included a screenshot of what the downloads look like.

  1. Click this link to download the Flash uninstaller: uninstall_flash_player.exe

  2. Click this one to download the latest installer: install_flash_player.exe

  3. Next, close Firefox.

  4. Next, double click the uninstall_flash_player.exe file you downloaded to remove the player from your machine.

  5. Next, reboot.

  6. When the PC boots to the desktop, double click the install_flash_player.exe file to install the latest version.

N.B. Do not start Firefox during the uninstall or install procedure.

To Xircal: Worked like a charm. Thanks.

You're welcome.

Incidentally, your Adobe Reader looks to be out of date which exposes your system to attack. See this Adobe security advisory: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/bulletins/apsb11-16.html

To update, download the latest version from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO but remove the checkmark from the option to install McAfee Security Scan because it can cause system instability if you already have an antivirus program installed.

A visit to the Plugins Check page might also be in order in case anything else needs updating.

How would you know that my Adobe Reader is out-of-date?

Click the link to "More system details", top right of this forum. ;)

Hi. I also had the same problem trying to install Adobe Flash Player and your solution totally worked. Awesome! Thanks so much.

Now, having the same exact error message, but this time for Adobe Reader. Is there an uninstall for reader. I do not see it in my list of programs, but maybe there are hidden files? I didn't see Adobe Flash in my list of software either, but the uninstall program seemed to be uninstalling something.

Anyway, if you can help me figure out how to install Adobe Reader, that would be great.

I am using Windows XP and I have been granted temporary Administrator/install rights (it's my work laptop).

Thanks!

I have tried this, numerous time, and it does not resolve the issue "download configuration failed". The only thing I can think of is that I am on dial-up. I will try it again on a faster connect. But I followed the instructions to the letter. BTW, maybe you should add "keep your internet connection open when installing".
