Firefox 5 still can't view pdfs in-browser??? (Mac)
Wasn't in-browser pdf-viewing support supposed to be one of the much-anticipated features of Firefox 5? I just updated and...nope. Still forces me to download them. Applications tab of preferences only offers "always ask" or "use preview".
Any way at all to fix this? I am a college student who continuously must read pdfs of research reports and I cannot keep having to download every single one I find or my productivity will go down the toilet! (having to download, open, read, drag to trash, go back to browser, etc. It also means I can't have multiple pdfs open in separate tabs)

Someone posted this solution on another forum. To view pdfs within FF5, just download and install the new version (apparently released earlier today!) of Schubert PDF plugin, here: http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf/

The new Schubert PDF plugin requires OS 10.6. With 10.5, which I currently have, no installation is possible.
I just tried installing the newest version (2.4.2). It doesn't show up in my list of plug-ins. Any idea what's going on? I'm running a Mac, OS 10.6.something.

Performance of which thing is terrible ?? Adobe Reader or Firefox ?? Please always provide full details of your problems.
Firefox performance is OK until I open a PDF document. Then, the Schubert plug-in drags the performance down for the entire browser experience. It also seems to be making the system marginally unstable; I'm getting the spinning beach ball lots of places, and some commands take forever to execute.
I have to say that it's essentially unusable in its current form for me.

I didn't find anything in those links that pertains to the PDF browser problem. This isn't a generic issue; it's specific to the Schubert plug-in. This hasn't worked right since FF 4, so I'm inclined to believe there's something wrong with FF itself. If so, it's amazing that the team would go through so many releases without addressing a pretty fundamental capability.
Update All your Firefox Plugins
- https://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
- http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/plugincheck/
- Remove Checkmark from Downloading other Optional Softwares with your Plugins (e.g. Toolbars, McAfee, Google Chrome, etc.)
Check and tell if its working.
IF it doesn't work, try Disabling Schubert plugin. See this - Determining if a Plugin is the problem
If Firefox works normally without Schubert plugin, contact Schubert about the problems you are facing using their plugin.
