My macbook pro was stolen on saturday 3/26/11.

However, the thief is using my firefox, and the webhistory is syncing to my droid X. I already have a name and address from her myspace page, but the police need and IP address to finalize the warrant. Is there anyway to use that data to extract an IP address? Maybe from the webhistory or cookies?

Any help you could provide would not only save my work and personal lives, but would also make you a full-fledged 1337 superhero.

Unfortunately we (Mozilla) don't have this data, as part of respecting the privacy of our users we don't have access to your sync data or logs. You may want to consider disabling sync as whomever has your laptop can also access that data unless you've enabled a master password. I'm sorry that we can't be of more assistance.

Here are some more tips for dealing with your stolen laptop:

First, change your sync password:

Warning: If you change your password, your other devices will stop syncing and have to be re-added to your Sync account.

At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Edit menu and select Preferences...

  1. Click on the Sync tab.
  2. Click the arrow next to Manage Account to reveal the Change Password link.
  3. Click the Change Password link and a new password window will open.
  4. Enter your new password and then confirm it.
  5. Then click Change Password.
  6. Click Close to close the Preferences window .

Second, change all of your account passwords:

It's important that you change your sync password before changing your other account passwords so that your phone doesn't get a copy of your new passwords. This part is more time consuming but vital. If you don't change the passwords for things like your bank account, it would still be possible for someone with your phone to log into your account.
