1. Click on Bookmarks button/menu and choose View Bookmarks Toolbar

Expected behavior: Toolbar should show bookmarks.

Actual behavior: Toolbar is empty.

Further discussion: If I go to Firefox > Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks and click on the "Bookmarks Toolbar" in the library then there are 22 bookmarks or folders listed.

Chosen solution

Check that you still have the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" placed on the Bookmarks Toolbar

  • Make sure that you have the "Bookmarks Toolbar" visible: "View > Toolbars"
  • Check in "View > Toolbars > Customize" that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is not on the Bookmarks Toolbar then drag it back from the Customize window onto the Bookmarks Toolbar
  • If you do not see the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" then click the "Restore Default Set" button

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

The following suggestion solved my issue:

  • 'Check in "View > Toolbars > Customize" that the "Bookmarks Toolbar items" is on the Bookmarks Toolbar '

I forgot that in previous versions of Firefox I had moved the bookmarks to the menu bar (to save vertical space). Since the menu bar is now hidden by default I did not see my bookmarks.

I'm having this issue and none of the suggestions above have worked. I've tried the following.

1. Uninstall and reinstall of Firefox 5.

2. Reset default set toolbar.

When I place the bookmark toolbar and make it visible, its there under customize mode but disappears when I exit customize mode. On the bookmarks menu, when I click "bookmark toolbars", it shows "empty". So basically I am unable to import/export bookmarks or dont' have access to any of the bookmark tools.

Try adding a bookmark to the Bookmarks Toolbar, when you're not in the Customize mode.

Thanks for the reply. I am able to add bookmarks individually but I don't have access to the bookmark tools. Therefore, I cannot add a bookmark export file I have from another computer.

Edit: I've attached a screenshot of what I'm referring to.

Edit: Nevermind, figured out how to import bookmarks.
