There are a few possible causes for that error, for details see "Firefox is already running but is not responding" error - How to fix and Profile in use - MozillaZine Knowledge Base.
Thanks for the suggestions. I have tried to find and remove parent lock and it is not in the profiles file; no file or folder is inadvertently locked; and I still cannot open Mozilla. I have removed and reinstalled it today.
Any more thoughts, ideas, more than welcome.
Thanks again.
Did you find the Firefox profile folder?
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
"Application Data" in XP/Win2K and "AppData" in Vista/Windows 7 are hidden folders, use %APPDATA% in the File name field
Go to: Control Panel > Folder Options > "View" tab > under "Hidden files and folders", select "Show hidden files and folders"
See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
- XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
- Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
ill tell you what i do and it works every time.. when you close your browser make sure that it is really closed, that its not minimized to your notifications area! The last and only solution after that is : open the task manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and goto processes tab, check if your browser is listed and still running! after selecting it, click (End process ) and start your browser again, it shall open once more // thats all i have for you, i hope it helps..
