Two weeks ago Firefox auto-installed the latest version. The browser immediately lost connection with the internet. I can t open new sites and already opened tabs cant be refreshed. I have since been travelling, hence the late question.

For better or for worse Windows Firewall is not activated.

I am running Windows XP Pro on a dual core AMD machine.

The odd thing is a previous used instance of Opera as main browser seems to be working flawlessly, I'm using it now to write this.

An attempt to install Google Chrome failed due to internet connection problems??

Latest Firefox on a Linux partition is working flawlessly afaics.

A re-upgrade from a downloaded installation file hasn't solved the problem nor has a uninstall and a clean reinstall.

I have in no way tinkered with the browser options nor the internet connection prior to the problem.

Thankful for advice.

Best

Phil

AFAIK, the only way to really turn off the Windows Firewall is by installing another Firewall program.

Thanks, your answer was dead on target!

I went over to using a non administrative account and disabled my AV software which was getting to be a resource burden.

Haven't regretted that, until the Firefox update. Seems like the firewall integrated into the AV software wasn't disabled together with on line AV scanning.

Firefox is now up and running again.

Best regards,

Phil

Same problem but with new broadband supplier. I get a balloon at computer startup that warns me no firewall is installed. I'm contacting you via Chrome.
