In earlier version of FF I could customise what happens if I enter a site name and then press ctrl+enter.

For instance if I typed firefox in the go to web site box and then I press ctrl+enter keys I would want to go to www.firefox.co.uk not www.firefox.com.

Chosen solution

  1. Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
  2. Accept the warning message, you will then be taken to a list of preferences
  3. In the filter box type alternate
  4. Double-click on the preference "browser.fixup.alternate.suffix" and change its value to .co.uk

I have an additional supplemental question to the original question.

I am English, living in England. Around 45% of the websites I visit are .co.uk websites, an example being

  www.bbc.co.uk

BUT

Around another 45% of the websites I regularly visit are .COMs. Another example being

  www.itv.com

What I'd like to know is: Is there an ADDITIONAL alternate somewhere in Firefox. eg where Ctrl + Enter can be left to prefix www and suffix .com but perhaps where Shift + Ctrl + Enter might alternatively give me the www prefix and the .co.uk suffix ???

Any suggestions.

You can look at the already mentioned URL Suffix extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/443

You can set different suffixes for each action.
