Hi, you shouldn't need a browser to install from a DMG file. See: How to download and install Firefox on Mac.

But the error could be because your 2014 Mac is running an OS that isn't compatible with the current Firefox 159 release.

Do you know what version of MacOS is on there? You might need an older installer:

(1) macOS 10.12 (Sierra), macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) and macOS 10.14 (Mojave)

Your Mac can run the Extended Support Release of Firefox 115, which is still being updated:

https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/115.44.0esr/mac/en-US/

That's U.S. English. To choose a different language/locale, click the .. link and then click into the relevant folder

See: Firefox users on macOS 10.12, 10.13 and 10.14 moving to Extended Support Release

(2) Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks, OS X 10.10 Yosemite and OS X 10.11 El Capitan

Your Mac can only run very old versions of Firefox. See: Firefox Mac OS X 10.9, 10.10 and 10.11 users move to Extended Support Release.

It seems that Firefox is not able provide an answer to the following questions as repeatedly mentioned and again NOW... You did get a reply above.

Firefox is a web browser and not a company so you would not get a reply from Firefox per say.

Also this is a thread on a community support forum and not some form of direct chat or ticket system with Mozilla. Replies can take anywhere from minutes to hours or longer.

One missing crucial detail you have not posted about as pointed out by jscher2000 is what version of macOS do you have on your old mid-2014 iMac. If it is macOS 10, 12, 10.13, 10.14 then you will not be able to run Firefox 116.0 or later including the current Firefox 159.0 Release. To run Firefox 116.0 or later including Fx 159.0 you need macOS 10.15 (ten.fifteen) or later.

Though a bit of searching about mid 2014 iMac shows it may support as current as macOS Big Sur with the latest being macOS 11.7.11.
