File menu opens by itself
For some weeks now, the "File" menu randomly opens by itself then closes a second or two later. It seems to happen once I get focus on a page. For example, if I open a new tab then go to Google and ask a question, once the answer is returned, within a second or two the File menu drops down then closes again. I have the latest version of FF (149.0), 64-bit under Windows 10. There are a couple of settings in about:config that were suggested to be changed by ChatGPT but this hasn't made any difference.

Hello,
here are some ways to fix it : 1. Disable the Alt Key Activating the Menu On Windows, tapping the Alt key opens the top menu bar, and sometimes Firefox misinterprets other inputs as an Alt press. Here's how to disable it : Type about:config in the adress bar Click "Accept the Risk and Continue". In the search box, paste: ui.key.menuAccessKeyFocuses Double-click it (or click the toggle button) to set it to false. Restart Firefox.
2. Disable Hardware Acceleration Sometimes, hardware acceleration issues cause rendering glitches that look like menus flashing. Click the menu button and select Settings. In the General panel, scroll down to Performance. Uncheck "Use recommended performance settings" and "Use hardware acceleration when available". Restart Firefox.
3. Sometimes extensions can be the problem.
- try disabling them or going into troubleshoot mode.

If all above fails, try creating a new profile.
Thanks for the suggestions. I have already done #1 and #2 and it hasn't helped. I tried #3 and it appears it may be an extension that is causing this. I installed an extension called "New tab override" shortly before this problem started happening. This was added because FF did an update which removed the usual Google search options from the search bar in the middle of the window and allowed me to set the default to this again. Now it seems I have to choose between the lesser of two evils. Any thoughts on this?
