stopped opening links in the apps
Even though I've never changed my settings aside from the first time I changed them to my preferred settings, for whatever reason, Firefox no longer opens links I tap on in external apps. I changed the settings to do it that way the very first time and it worked fine up until a little while ago. Now, the only way it opens a link in the external app when I tap on it, is if I tap and hold, and then choose that option in the pop-up menu. As I said, in the settings it IS set to open links in external apps, but it doesn't do it anymore.

The behavior of opening links is also controlled at the Android system. It's possible that a setting there has been changed or a default has been cleared.
You can check if Firefox is set as the default browser
Go to your phone's Settings app.
Tap on Apps > Menu > More Options > Default apps > Browsers
And choose Firefox.
Yes it's already set as my default browser. Any idea what setting on my android may have messed it up?
A different app like the one you're trying to open a link from, might have its own setting for that. For example, a social media app might be set to open all YouTube links within its own built-in browser instead of sending them to Firefox.
Maybe you need to check your external App settings.
I'll definitely take a look
I sometimes have this problem with links in the YouTube app in the descriptions. I'll have to keep closer track, but I think they are links to Google Maps and they open in Firefox first. Usually Firefox immediately asks if it should launch them in Google Play Services, but sometimes it just does nothing. Even reloading the tab doesn't work. Maybe there is something different about those URLs that causes the stuckness.
It's used to have the little pop up asking if I wanted it to open in the app until I selected the always option and then it started to just automatically open them in the apps but then outta nowhere it stopped doing it. And it does what you said, it either just does nothing at all or it'll open a blank page. Mostly just nothing though. The blank page is definitely less often than it just doing nothing at all.
I have exactly the same issue since a few weeks now and it is super annoying. It's with all kinds of links that will not open in the app anymore. Sometimes I delete the Cache of Firefox and then it sometimes works again for an hour or so, then it doesn't anymore. I also deleted all the data of Firefox last weekend, but the issue returned.
I have checked all the App settings on my Phone (Samsung S25 Plus) and of Firefox, but nothing I try makes any difference.
Yeah, exactly the issues I'm having. It keeps going back to not opening the links in the apps no matter what I do. Wonder if it's just because of Mozilla at this point🤷🏼♀️
Well at least I no I'm far from the only 1 dealing w/ this it seems like then. Sounds like it's on Firefox's end by the sound of it. I also have been having an issue with the auto fill for quite a long time now that I didn't used to have any problem w/. It stopped filling in my 1st nd last name and then my street address as well. Only the house number and street name part of my address seems to be an issue for whatever reason, it fills out everything else no problem except my birthrate and then like I said, my 1st nd last names as well it stopped autofilling for me when I select the auto fill option. It didn't always do this before. The auto fill thing started awhile ago now though. But never did figure that one out either. Maybe that's on Firefox too I have no idea.
I've had this problem for several weeks now. It doesn't matter which app the link should open to, none work. I use two banking apps for payments and it doesn't open them. I have found a workaround: in Firefox settings, set Open links in apps to Always if it's set to Ask before opening, and to Ask before opening if it's set to Always. On exiting the menu, the link will open in the relevant app.
I've tried force stopping the app and deleting the cache, but that makes the problem go away exactly once. After that the problem comes back. I'm 99% sure this is a Firefox issue.
Same issue here. Changing the setting gets it working again, but only once. It seems to be related to new tabs: if I open a page using "open link in new tab" any link in that tab fails to open in an app, but if I open it in the current tab, links in the page open in apps as expected.

I have the same issue. Especially with the banking apps it's annoying. Sometimes it's possible to copy the payment app link from the payment button and paste it into a new tab, then it opens the app. But it's not always possible to copy the link directly from the payment button...
Hi folks,
We're tracking the external app issue here which should be fixed with the upcoming 143.0.4 release. Please keep an eye on the update and let us know if the problem persists after the update.
Yay! Thanks Kiki! Awesome to hear bcuz I've tried everything mentioned here nd so far nothing fixes it so I'll DEF b keeping my eyes open for the update. Wat about the autofill issue that's been there for awhile now that I mentioned in this thread here? It stopped filling in my first name, last name and for watevr reason, the part of my address that's my house # and street name quite awhile ago now. It still fills everything else w/ no problem. Except my bday date sumtimes. Not sure if that's possible to fix too lol.
Hi Toria,
Of course! The new 143.0.4 version has came out since last Friday, so make sure to update your Firefox for Android to get the fix for the external link issue. Once you confirm the fix, please mark an answer as the solution to help other people with the same issue.
As for the autofill issue, please create a new thread so we can have a focused conversation as this thread is pretty crowded already.
