firefox stops responding at random times and won't close
About two weeks ago, Firefox started randomly hanging and would stop responding. It wouldn't let me close the program and I always have to restart my system to resolve the problem. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes after restart before it hangs, other times it will be fine for hours.
I've tried multiple solutions I've found online, carefully following instructions: clearing cookies and cache, disabling all extensions, refreshing firefox, creating a new profile, deleting specific files within the Profiles folder, etc.
I've yet to make it more than four hours without the program hanging.
Any assistance or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

We're sorry to hear that Firefox is crashing. In order to assist you better, please follow the steps below to provide us crash IDs to help us learn more about your crash.
The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.
- Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A list of Submitted (and Unsubmitted, if any) Crash Reports will appear, similar to the one shown below.
- Copy the 5 most recent Submitted Report IDs that start with bp- and then go back to your forum question and paste those IDs into the "Post a Reply" box.
Note: If a recent Report ID does not start with bp- click on it to submit the report.
(Please don't take a screenshot of your crashes, just copy and paste the IDs. The below image is just an example of what your Firefox screen should look like.)
Thank you for your help!
More information and further troubleshooting steps can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly) article.
Looks like there's only a single crash report that would be relevant (from yesterday) as the next most recent one is four months old, which is long before I started having issues.

I usually have to restart my system about 5-7 times a day when it hangs but I guess none of those were actually 'crashes' and so didn't generate reports.
Hi Jera
That looks like a problem with a Windows system file. As a first step, please can you make sure that Windows and all the software that you have installed is fully up to date.
Windows is up to date as are all of my drivers. To the best of my knowledge, all of the software I'm using is also up to date and looks like I'm also virus and malware free.
I'm not sure if this might be relevant as I can't recall now which came first but it seems to me that it was about the same time.....I was having issues with powershell starting at system startup and couldn't figure out why.
So I installed Malwarebytes and during the initial system scan it said it found Trojans RTPScript and TskLnk on my system and removed them. Ever since then, when I restart my system I don't get powershell starting but I do get two vbs script error messages, which I've shown below. I've got them and their .bat files. The relevant files are still in my quarantine folder.
So maybe it was a false positive and that's what is causing the firefox lockups? I've followed instructions for fixing vbscript errors on start up as found here: https://www.majorgeeks.com/content/page/how_to_fix_windows_script_host_errors_on_startup.html and that doesn't resolve the script problem and I'm not sure how it would relate to the issue with Firefox anyway.
Thanks so much for any suggestions you might have for me.
Hi
This does not look like an issue with Firefox but is very likely being caused by malware.
In addition to the Malwarebytes scan, you may also wish to use Windows Defender.
