firefox used to have good history now it's only 7 days? i need to see more than 7 days, all of it being available is ideal. what prompted this - although i've been irked by it before - is needing to know how i got to a website, what was the search and/or tab spelunking that got me there? it's really important to know this. relying solely on google search (if that'll yield part of the trail) seems contrary to firefox ethos.

that article is from 2023 when 1) history extended back older than 6 months. in june 2025 i can't see past 7 days. that's the problem. as an aside, the screenshot in the article also shows history/bookmarks page in light mode, now dark mode in the only option (hard on eyes). thank you for replying but i still can't see past 7 days in history.

In my Firefox 139 it works exactly as in the article (see the attached screenshot).

Could you please add a screenshot of your Library window? See How do I create a screenshot of my problem? on how to make it.

Thank you, and sorry for the delay. Now we know, that the issue is not caused by the Library window, all entries older than 7 days are just missing.

Does it still look the same? If not, this must be a one-time problem (e.g., you accidentally cleared the history or it was cleared because of a bug). In that case, Recover user data missing after Firefox update may help.

If your history looks the same (with entries older than 7 days missing), this means the entries are deleted regularly for some reason. In that case:

  1. Make sure your privacy settings are not causing this:
    1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton and select Settings.
    2. Select the Privacy & Security panel.
    3. In the History section make sure that the Firefox will drop-down menu is set to either Remember history or Use custom settings for history.
      • If Firefox will is set to Use custom settings for history, then make sure that Always use Private Browsing mode is not checked.
      • If Firefox will is set to Use custom settings for history and Clear history when Firefox closes is checked, then click the Settings button and make sure that Browsing & download history is not checked.
    4. Close the Settings page. Any changes you've made will automatically be saved.
  2. Head to about:support, scroll down to Places Database and click Verify Integrity.
  3. Try creating a new Firefox profile to check if a corrupted file is causing the issue. For the new profile, Firefox will create new files, so you can try visiting some sites using that profile and check if the entries stay in a week.

Looking forward to your update! In case the steps above do not help, there are more things we could try.
