I cannot for the life of me figure this out. Whenever I load a website that needs location (for example, Google Maps or my province's lottery) and enable location permissions, the websites come back saying they cannot find my location.

I have refreshed Firefox, disabled all Enhanced Tracking Protection, disabled all extensions, and have even ran Firefox in Troubleshoot mode - all to no avail. Is there any way this can be fixed? These websites all work on Chrome and Edge and work on my Firefox for iPhone.

On Windows 10 22H2.

Hello,

First, make sure to grant Firefox permission to access your location. You can do that by heading to Windows Settings -> Privacy -> Location, enabling location for your device, checking "Allow apps to access your location", and checking Firefox in the "Choose which apps can access your precise location" list below. See this Microsoft Support article for details.

Okay, just checked the settings you told me to. My location is on, and the only app that has access to it is my Camera app and Edge. Firefox doesn't appear on these settings at all, no matter what I have tried. There is no geofencing enabled.

Hello,

Thank you for responding. I'd also recommend checking the geo.enabled and permissions.default.geo Firefox preferences in the Configuration Editor:

  • Type about:config in the address bar and press Enter.
  • A warning page may appear. Click "Accept the Risk and Continue" to go to the about:config page.
  • Enter geo.enabled in the Search preference name box.
  • If the geo.enabled preference (named exactly like that) value is false, set it to true by toggling the Toggle Fx71aboutconfig-ToggleButton button (or just double-click on the preference).
  • Enter permissions.default.geo in the Search preference name box.
  • Try changing the preference value to 3, or 1, or even back to 0 (default) then, by clicking the Edit Fx71aboutconfig-EditButton button (or just double-clicking on the preference), entering a new value and clicking the Save Fx71aboutconfig-Checkmark button. This (with setting to 0 again) worked for me for some reason, as I also had a similar issue.

Does it help?

Hi there,

I tried the about:config method like you said. My geo.enabled was already set to true, and I tried your method of setting the permissions.default.geo to 3, and then back to 0 (did it with 1 and back to 0), and I am still running into the same issues.

To clarify, I am testing on maps.google.com and playnow.com (BC, Canada's gambling site) and on both of these sites my location keeps timing out or not being found at all.
