T-Bird has stopped deleting my trash directory on shutdown.
I've been running T-Bird v.38.8.0 on a Windows 7 computer for years. I have the server settings for my account to "Empty Trash on Exit", and it's been doing that flawlessly for years. Recently (past few days), it has failed to empty the Trash folder on shutdown. The server settings have not changed (box is still checked to empty the trash on exit). If anyone has experienced this issue, can you help me fix the problem? I would very much appeciate your help. Thank you.

V38 is not a supported version of Thunderbird.
Why are you not using Thunderbird 115 which is the last version for windows 7? My guess is your antivirus is blocking the file delete, but I can only guess.
Matt, thanks for your reply. It did not solve my problem, but oddly enough, when I opened my email this morning, the problem no longer existed. It appears that Thunderbird is self-healing. As for your question re. why I'm not using v.115, sometimes (actually quite often) newer is not better. Over the years, I've tried the newer versions and in my opinion, they're more complicated and absolute overkill for what I need or want. Whoever thought that a Check Engine light was better than an oil pressure gauge and a voltmeter? I should also note that I'm using the same T-Bird version on my Windows 10 computer, and it still works for me. I've also just acquired a full gaming Windows 11 computer (haven't even turned it on yet), and I plan to migrate the same version of T-Bird to it. Any advice about how to do this would be appreciated. Thanks again.
