How do I open a special page from within an addon?

I know that addons have no power on special pages. I understand the security concerns and I agree. I would still like to at least open `about:about` from an addon, like e.g., vimium or just from a bookmark. Is that possible? And if so, how?

Using a bookmark to open about: pages shouldn't be a problem, extensions can't open such a page. Is saving a bookmark with about:about as its URL not working for you?

Ah okay. I can open it via the native bookmark menu, but not via the addon. I mean ... hmm, okay - it's sufficient :)
