After years of using Thunderbird, today I received the attached error message. I am sending an email to another address within our company? eg, @doulton.ca

dave@doulton.ca sending to H2O@doulton.ca

Any help would be appreciated.

Since you are receiving error for no authentication and the SMTP settings show no authentication, I suggest you try some settings, such as 'normal password' and see if that satisfies your email system. That needs correction anyway, as most email providers now demand authentication if incoming emails

I suggest you post a screenshot of your SMTP server pane, as that may open up suggestions. Thank you,

Thank you for the quick response. Attached are my SMTP settings. I have no issues sending emails from my phone (Android) just the Thunderbird app on my laptop started giving me this error this morning.

Thank you David. Worked. I don't understand any of this but it worked!

You're welcome. To educate you briefly, the server sees you sending from mtsbiz.net and wants to confirm if you're authorized to use the mtsbiz.net mail server, so it asks for authentication that you are a legitimate user. This protects them from people using the server who are not authorized and such senders will normally be seen as spammers -- using a legitimate mail server illegitimately. There, more than you ever wanted to know, but now when asked at the dinner table whether you learned anything today, you will shine.  :) Enjoy.
