Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing an issue with Firefox on Debian 11 while running the Home Assistant dashboard. I'll do my best to assist you and provide some guidance.

Based on the error you mentioned, it seems to be related to a codec issue with the Hikvision cam stream using the WebRTC addon. Here are a few suggestions you can try to troubleshoot and resolve the problem:

Clear the browser cache: Start by clearing the cache and cookies in Firefox. Sometimes, accumulated cache data can interfere with website functionality.

Update Firefox and addons: Ensure that you're running the latest version of Firefox and any addons or extensions you have installed. Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

Disable conflicting addons: Temporarily disable any other addons or extensions you have installed, especially those related to streaming or video playback. This will help identify if any conflicts are causing the issue.

Check for system updates: Make sure your Debian 11 system is up to date with the latest patches and updates. This can address any potential compatibility issues between the operating system and Firefox.

Test on a different browser: Try accessing the Home Assistant dashboard on a different browser to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if it's specific to Firefox or a broader compatibility problem.

If the issue persists after trying these steps, I recommend posting your question on the Firefox Support Forum. The community there will be able to provide more specific guidance and assistance based on their expertise and experiences.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions or need additional assistance.

Best regards, Suram Firefox Support Volunteer

Debian is up to date. I have tried cleaning cache but it doesnt work. I've tried nativefier which is chromium based and it works, but the problem is, its memory hog. I'm trying to deploy this to a poe powered machine so I'd thought firefox would be better in this area. Which forum are you referring to? i thought this is firefox official support forum?

I think that first reply was from a new AI bot that showed up here recently.

What add-on is it?

Firefox's native WebRTC features are supported by Cisco's OpenH264 plugin, but I don't know whether that is relevant to the add-on you're using. (You can check that the Cisco plugin is enabled on the Add-ons page, Plugins panel.)

In your screenshot, it looks like the page is not on a secure connection. I don't know whether Firefox is requiring that for WebRTC these days. Can you enable SSL in Home Assistant just in case?

Ah no wonder, Its not an addon, its simply a webpage for home assistant dashboard which uses webrtc server to stream hikvision cameras. Thats the thing, I checked the addon that says cisco openh264 plugin, it says its installed but not activated. when i try to activate it it seems to stuck at "will be installed shortly" Id rather not mess with SSL if possible since I have several devices that works already without SSL..

As a Windows person, I'm not familiar with the requirements for installing the plugin on different Linux distros. A web search turned up this link:

https://packages.debian.org/source/sid/openh264

If you don't already have that installed, maybe it would help??
