Just updated Firefox to version 112.2 on my iPad which has iOS 15 Did the update via the apple App Store. Relaunched (restarted) Firefox and ALL tabs that were open are Gone! I can’t find the “restore previous session” option anywhere.

Can you tell me where to find it? How do I get the previous session back?!?

I’ve been using Firefox for years. Firefox not starting up after the update with all the previous tabs open is devastating to me. I need to get the previous session restored. Please help

I don't know whether the iOS version of Firefox or Firefox Focus has anything similar to the "Restore Previous Session" command found on the Mac/Windows/Linux version of Firefox.

Could you confirm whether you have:

Thanks for replying. I’m at a loss for what has happened

Yes I have confirmed it is Firefox for iOS and not Firefox Focus.

Firefox as we know allows you to have multiple tabs. Focus only allows one webpage to be opened at a time (it has no tabs).

I’ve also gone to the App Store and it shows Focus is available which means it’s not on my iPad. If it were the App Store would show an option to update it or show the word “Open” (aka launch/ start FireFox) indicating the latest version is on my iPad. The App Store shows neither.

I read somewhere to not close Firefox once restarts after being updated. Supposedly closing it could affect the ability to restore the previous session. That said I have not shut down/ closed FireFox since it opened after the update.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for replying. I’m at such a loss about what has happened. If I knew all tabs would be lost after updating FireFox on my iPad I wouldn’t have updated it.

Still hoping someone has info on how to restore my previous session before the upgrade.

The history of websites visited is still intact but it only goes back 30 days. Many of the tabs I lost were opened before those 30 days.

Looks like I’m SOL…. For iOS users who “update” FireFox only to find the “update” completely wipes out all the tabs that were open before the “update” is a major screw up by FireFox. To add to that there being no “restore previous session” option for iOS devices (iPhones, iPads etc) is just as bad if not worse and pretty much guarantees the catastrophic effects of an update. WTF! If these consequences are considered an “update” then it’s better to never update FireFox! I After years of FireFox being my “go to” browser it’ll be tough to switch to another. But such a Major Failure as what has happened leaves little hope any future FireFox updates will not end with equally catastrophic results. Before updating, FireFox should at the very least have the decency to inform everyone what the affect an update will have vs everyone having to find out for themselves the hard way! Not informing FireFox users is not what a one would expect from a community, the FireFox/ Mozilla community.

Hi

I am sorry to hear that this has happened and I am unaware of it happening to other Firefox for iOS users. Although it is unlikely we will be able to recover the lost tabs, our developers may be able to look into what happened in more detail for you using some logs from inside your copy of Firefox for iOS.

This article will walk you through getting both crash logs and Firefox logs. When you have them, please file them here (a GitHub account is required) so that our developers can look into this further for you.

I hope that this helps.

Ok. I’ve retrieved the Crash logs and Firefox logs. ———

Regarding the Crash logs which have been retrieved…..

The Crash logs instructions in the link you sent states: “Select the desired log which in the screenshot is of format Client-2022-15-XXXXXX.ips”

There’s 32+- logs in this format. Which “desired log” am I suppose to select?

Also Firefox didn’t crash. It was Updated to the latest version. Is updating Firefox considered a “Crash”? ———

24 FireFox logs have been retrieved. You wrote: “When you have them, please file them here (a GitHub account is required) so that our developers can look into this further for you.”

What is GitHub? What personal info is in the Crash logs and/ or FireFox logs?

I appreciate your help but it’s not clear what I may be exposing myself to by uploading the 24 Firefox logs to this GitHub website. Same for whichever one of the multiple Crash logs I’m supposed to upload. Asking as I’m just trying to be safe here….

Hi

GitHub is an open code repository that we use for storing and working on the code of Firefox for iOS. Alongside this, our developers can look at and work on issues that have been raised.

You are welcome to view the logs yourself, but as far as I am aware, they should not contain any identifiable personal information.

Thanks for the added clarification.

Which one of the 32+- Crash logs should I upload? Asking as the GitHub instructions said to select the “desired log”. I have no idea which log that might be. That being the case should I upload all of the Crash logs?

As for the FireFox logs It appears all 24 should be uploaded.

Ok I’ve signed up for a GitHub account. Created a repository. Is that where the logs should be uploaded? If so how do I upload them? GitHub interface isn’t all that intuitive or clear…..

Further to the earlier answer, please file them at:

https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/firefox-ios/issues/new?assignees=&labels=Crash&template=---crash-report.md

Please include the most recent two or three logs, but you are welcome to add more if you wish.

Thanks. I just finished uploaded six logs. One log from the day Firefox was updated and the tabs were gone after restarting firefox (5/10).

Four logs from the day before the update (5/9)

One log from two days before the update.(5/8)

That’s six logs in total.

I hope this helps to figure out what happened

Thank you. Our developers will be able to look into this and provided updates directly to you.

What is a Jira Task? and what is the website I d.atlassiam.com about?

Asking as there is a note at the bottom of the uploads that says: “issue is synchronized with this Jira Task”

The words “Jira Task” is a hyperlink which initially brings me to https://mozilla-hub.atlassian.net/browse/(xxxxx) which immediately bounces me to this website: Id.atlassiam.com (fwiw I deleted part of the mozilla url and wrote “xxxxx” just in case there’s a privacy issue)

typo above, should be “id.atlassiam.com

I think Jira is an internal tracking system that we can't access if we aren't employees.

What’s the typical timeframe for the developers to look at the logs and let me know what they find? Will that info be posted here, emailed to me, posted in the GitHub thread where the logs were uploaded?

Thanks

more options

That is more difficult to say as it will depend on the severity of the issue and developers time to look at it.

After the developers look at the logs will what they find be posted here, emailed to me, and/ or posted in the GitHub thread where the logs were uploaded?

Well then, I guess not….. ? Why did I jump through all the hoops, creating accounts, finding logs, uploading the logs, etc thinking it would help get this fixed? Even a little feedback would be helpful. It seems like a lot of wasted effort for nothing. I hope I’m wrong…..
