Inbox messages are not marked as read automatically when displayed in the Message Pane. This started happening in rel 102.8, and continues in rel 102.9.

The Setting is set to 'Automatically mark messages as read - immediately on display'.

more options

try restarting in troubleshooting mode from the help menu (continue when prompted) and see if that makes a difference. If it does you have an add-on or antivirus component that is the issue in all likelihood.
