Emails single window issue - macOS & TB 102.2.2
Hi,
Looks like the "single window" settings is not working or I am not clear understanding the feature.
a) Open email (double clicking) - TB open it on a new window , that is OK b) Replay the opened email (replay button) - TB open a second window ????
From my eyes, TB should not open a second window for the replay. Please does it make sense to you too? I don't see where the "single window"is playing here.
Please is there any other settings that will avoid the second window when replaying?
Any comment is welcome, tks!

Do mean reply?
Yes, "reply" button (typo).
If the 'Message Pane' is enabled, then a single click on email in thread Pane list will open email and display in the Message Pane. If you double click on an email in list then it will open using your chosen settings in either a new tab or a new window or an existing window (if one is already opened). Either way - you are now reading the contents of an email you received.
In the opened email you will see the headers above the email content. In the headers will be some buttons that specifically relate to what you can do with that opened email. One of those buttons is 'Reply'. When you click on 'Reply' a completely different window opens because 'Reply' means you want to communicate with the sender regarding that email. So you are now seeing a 'Write' window because you want to write an email.
Reading a received email and writing a new email use different windows and the buttons available for each will be different.
So everything seems to be behaving as expected.
If you do not want to open received emails in a new window, then you have two options. A double click could open in a new tab rather than a window.
- Menu icon > Settings > General
- Scroll down to 'Reading & Display'
- Open message in :
- select your choice
However, you can open emails using a single click. In this case, the emails need to open in the Message Pane which by default opens below the list of emails. This is enabled by:
Menu icon > View > Layout Select 'Message Pane'
So if Message Pane is enabled you have a choice - the single click opens in Message Pane and the double click opens in new tab/window.
When you want to write an email - click on 'Write' button and it opens in a new window because you are now needing to compose an email which requires a completely different set of options and buttons.
Obviously, if you want to specifically 'Reply' to the sender of that email then clicking on 'Reply' will open a 'Write' window to faciliate this. You will discover the contents of the email you are replying to will also be copied over - after all you are now engaging in a conversation about the email you received. It is advised you do not use the 'Reply' if you are not wanting to Reply - if you want to talk about something completely unrelated to the email you received. Otherwise both you and the receipient could end up with threaded mail looking weird as 'subject' topics get mixed up.

Hi Toad-Hall,
tks for the contribution so looks like it's working as designed. I was expecting the "reply window" being open (transforming the menus) in the current window after open it with the double click. This would preserve opening two windows each time to "read" and "reply". I don't use the "message panel" feature I don't like that style.
