Is there a way to disable start on home page?

I really don’t find the new start on home page feature useful at all. Quite the opposite, actually. Is there a way to disable this, have I missed something?

Firefox gets ejected out of memory more often than Safari, so I’d like to be able to resume what I was doing as seamlessly as possible and have FF just reload the last open tab on launch. The current behavior opens a new tab that I didn’t ask for, and when I close it, it takes me all the way back to the first tab, which is still not something I want. This strikes me as a stunningly poor design. Is it just me? Am I doing it wrong?
