With Firefox 89.0.2 (64 bit) on macOS i can't play HD videos, they go on very low quality. There wasn't problems some version ago, but i can't say since. I have no issues with YouTube and Prime Video works well in Safari. Widevine version is 4.10.2209.1, and the plugin and the plugins auto-update are both enabled.

  • I tried to clear all cookies/cache/data without any luck.
  • Tried Troubleshoot mode, same issue
  • I tried also to change DNS to google dns, i was using AdGuard dns, but not even this resolve the issue unfortunately.
  • I tried also a second instance on Firefox on macOS, without extensions and default settings, but the issue still persists.
  • Tried latest nightly, disbaled all privacy block/settings, all permitted, but no luck again.

On the console of the nighlty build i see some errors, in the gdrive link i made a short video. video link

If you don't get an answer here, see this Amazon forum thread. It's 6 months old but it may be helpful in explaining why some browsers like Safari on macOS support HD but not others: https://www.amazonforum.com/s/question/0D54P00007r3ROxSAM/what-browsers-support-1080p-where-is-this-documented What browsers support 1080p? Where is this documented? (quote) On computers, Google's Widevine CDM {better known as the one used by Mozilla Firefox, and Chromium-based browsers such as Chrome itself, Opera, etc.} usually can offer only the least secure, sofware-based decryption (Widevine 'Level 3'), and might not be able to detect HDCP compliance. {It doesn't have these limitations on Android devices or ChromeOS notebooks.} On most streaming services with protected video, that translates to 720p or lower viewing quality.

By contrast, first-party browsers such as Apple's Safari on macOS, and MS Edge (using its MS PlayReady CDM) on Windows 10, are said to have access to private system functions which enable hardware-secured decryption, HDCP detection, etc. In turn, that translates to 1080p or higher viewing quality.
