No Internet when Mozilla VPN is turned off

VPN for MacOS (11.2.3) - MacBook Air (M1)

If I turn OFF the VPN then I no longer have any internet access at all. This includes turning it off and stopping it from starting up on a reboot - then rebooting the laptop. Still no access. Withn Firefox (my browser of choice) I eventually get the server not found page. Using Safari it just hangs.

Any advice or help would be appreciated as there are times when it is needed to not be using the VPN.
