Mozilla VPN for Mac
How do I know if the Mozilla VPN is on and working? I installed it and opened the app. I never got the statement the directions say will come up - "On first connection, the VPN will ask for admin permissions to make changes to your computer’s network settings" - never came up. The app shows it is on but how do I really know it is actually working - there is nothing shown on my Firefox browser that indicates I have a VPN working. I have a Macbook pro running Big Sur. Thanks

Hi there,
That permissions message normally comes up if your system settings require your permissions in order for an app to make changes. You may have given them when you original installed the app on your Mac or you may not have this type of setting enable for you computer.
To confirm the app is online check the following two areas: 1. Open the app on your Mac and toggle it on. See attached image. If its off, it will say "VPN is off", If it is on, it will say "VPN is on". 2. If the app window is not on screen check your Menu bar for the VPN logo. see attached image.
If you are not seeing any error notifications within the app, you are good to go.

Hello, fellow Firefox fans!
I'm growing tired of my ZenMate VPN for a number of reasons. Once a VPN version for Mac was available, I immediately signed up. This is the first day trying it out.
An enormous red flag for me is that the icon in the menu bar does not clearly show the status of the connection.
If anyone at Mozilla is listening, please have the icon set to green when it's connected and red when it's dropped or turned off.
For the users who may be color blind, perhaps you can consider having the icon change from a check mark to the character "X."
In the screen shot attached you can see that the ZenMate icon is displayed in blue, which means that I'm connected. The Mozilla VPN connection status is barely visible by the tiny check mark.
Thanks!
I second what Don has requested and want to expand on the request a bit. I just installed the VPN today and on my smallish MacBook Air screen, the check mark is all but invisible in the menu bar. Please consider some color options or larger icons that work better for anyone with reduced vision (colorblindness, extreme nearsightedness or farsightedness, etc.).
In addition, there's also no way to access the VPN settings through System Preferences > Network, so I can't turn on the menu bar indicator that shows how long the VPN has been connected. And, although I've only started testing this service today, based on the limited functionality I've seen so far, I'm assuming that there's no warning given when or if the VPN is disconnected -- or that the VPN blocks network activity if the connection ends to prevent unwanted leaks. If it does provide that functionality, I wish you made that more obvious, somehow. I can imagine that someone who has never used a VPN before wouldn't even think about this potential issue, and the VPN could be disconnected for hours without them knowing. (Again, maybe the service does alert the user or block activity automatically, but I don't see any evidence of it right now.)
So... just better communication with the user all around, I guess, please. Thanks!
