As I have recently migrated my message folders to a new profile, but with my account being setup identical to what it was in the original profile, the From and To/Cc fields of the message header are abbreviated to just the name of sender and recipient(s). In previous versions of Thunderbird I have been accustomed to seeing the full format "Joe Doe <JD@someplace.com>" and without the solid blue start adjacent. Is there a convenient way to revert to the older format? The original profile and the new profile are viewed in TB 78.6.1.

Oh, I looked a little further and this seems to be a setting in the address book: (checkbox) "Always prefer display name over message header". It appears to default to a check (tick). I wonder why the default is checked?

Migrating message folders to a new profile is never smooth going. That is why migrating profiles to new devices is recommended. From what I have seen in another topic here your issues go beyond the header formats. I would suggest you start with explaining exactly how you did your migration and what problems you are seeing.

The star demotes your contact is in your address book when filled and is outlined when they are not present in your address book. This indicator has been present since V3 released in December 2009.

The option Show only display names for people in my address book is probably selected....(Search address in options) turn it off to see the information from the email header instead of the display name from the address book entry.

Just to be clear, sfhowes gave me the right answer. Please do know that I have been using Thunderbird all the way back to Netscape Communicator before it was renamed to Thunderbird and I do not remember any mention of the setting in options described by sfhowes ever being set before. Problem solved. Thanks for your looking at it.
