Downgrading away from Firefox 79 for Android

more options

Since the Firefox dev team has decided to completely (removed) this browser, completely changing the experience and bricking the option of making the browser usable by fiddling with about:config, I want to go back to the version before this.

How do I do this? The PlayStore does not support going back to an older version.

Do I really have to download an older apk from a possibly shady third party website? Because I sure as hell can't find apks on Mozilla's FTP...

Hi

I have edited the language of your question as we try to keep this forum "family friendly".

It is not possible to downgrade Firefox for Android and I do not recommend doing it through other means as it can expose you to security and stability risks going forwards.

I don't give a rat's behind about family friendly. App developers keep having a pat-your-own-back-event every time they release a new version and it almost ALWAYS makes things worse.

I'll be civil the moment you people realise that you're costing millions of people energy and time with this behaviour. What you are doing is at the very least inconsiderate.

So now stop riding the PC horse to death and start giving me alternatives or I swear to all that I hold dear I'll be one less user on ALL platforms. I used to root for the underdog. Wanted to not embolster the already overpowering chromium brigade but you seem to want to leave me no choice.

Have you been bought by google? Are you trying to piss people off so they can just scrap mozilla without backlash? Sure seems like it...

It IS possible to downgrade on Android. So stop lying. I could go find out which architecture I have and then install the APK. Or mozilla could do the sensible thing an install an "I think this version is garbage, let me go back" function. It CAN be done. y'all just don't want to. So don't give me this spiel.

My initial post was wrong insofar as the apk is on the FTP. I found this:

https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mobile/releases/68.11.0/android-aarch64/en-US/

Installed it an lo and behold, I can rape Firefox into doing what I want once again.

Thanks for nothing.

Please appreciate that you will not get any security or stability fixes on that version of Firefox going forwards. It is strongly recomended that you use the latest version of Firefox for Android from the Google Play store.

What do you change in about:config?

Firefox Nightly for Android has about:config, but in the context of the new browser engine so the preferences may be different. You could install it alongside for comparison.
