Is there a way to launch Firefox with multiple profiles like Chrome?

Containers are ok but don't really work well. Chrome's switching profiles, with separate sessions, bookmarks etc, in a new window is great.

Will firefox release something similar soon?

Chosen solution

Hi dubbledef, I think multiple profiles are still viewed as a bit of a niche feature. You can set them up and launch them from a special page inside Firefox (called about:profiles), but there isn't a cute little toolbar button.

We just had another thread on profiles, so let me share a link and you can test it out: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1290648

Note: Firefox doesn't create separate desktop shortcuts automatically. Perhaps that will be added in the future?

Thanks jscher2000. Appreciate the quick response. It's a shame, it's useful to separate purposes. Can't decide whether containers or about:profiles is the least painful :)

I don't use container tabs myself, so I would be interested in your comparison after you test them versus a separate profile.

The main advantage I see to container tabs in the same profile is that Firefox is aware of them so if you find a link in a regular tab that you want to open in a Container tab, that is fairly easy. However, Firefox cannot send a link to a different profile as far as I know, so you'd have to copy/paste.
