and then I have to start again using my account for synch which a mobile phone (there I never have problems). But why is it resetting by itselves now last time yesterday, first after weeks and then shorter and shorter. I am a great fan of Firefox already using it for 18 years now but this is anoying as I not always has that mobile close to me and therefore all history/accounts are temporarily gone.

This is a common issue for Mac users who have installed Firefox incorrectly and are running Firefox directly from the downloaded ******.dmg instead of copying the firefox.app file to their applications folder.

The reason you are only experiencing this issue recently is because in Firefox 67, Firefox changed how they handle users who are running multiple installations of Firefox on their computer. For example, a user may want to run the regular Firefox, but they may also want to have a pre-release test version of Firefox installed (like Firefox Nightly). For those users, Firefox automatically creates a new blank profile on your computer.

The reason this becomes an issue for Mac users running directly from the DMG file is that Apple treats that as a "disk". Because of this, a number of different events might cause the location of your Firefox installation to change, tricking Firefox into thinking that this is a new version of Firefox that you have installed.

To fix this issue, see the How to download and install Firefox on Mac document to properly install the Firefox browser by moving the firefox.app file into the applications folder on your Mac. Then, only open Firefox from that file. That should stop the location of Firefox from changing and should fix the issue that you are having.

Hope this helps.
