how can I check the SSL certificate (the 'lock' icon) of a website
In the desktop version I can just click on this 'lock' icon (in front of the 'https'), but on my Ipad??

Great question. So far I have not found any solution to look up the certificate dialog window. I don't think it supported, yet.
I do recommend to open a feature request. Simply send your comment via email to ios-feedback@mozilla.com or go to Firefox > Settings > Send feedback. Even better open a feature request on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org
