This is something that we cannot change in Firefox for Android, but you may wish to try using a touch screen pointer. They are relatively low cost and are about pen sized - it may help you to tap the right part of the screen more accurately.
I understand and i have tried stylus but I can't seem to find it when i need it sorry for my rant but perhaps add a few extra seconds wait time especially when dealing with us old timers on mobile. I find I use my backspace key a lot, that takes more time. I will compliment you on providing the "show" option it helps a lot.

The other thing that may help is to type with the device held "landscape". It will make the webpage area a bit smaller, but it will make the keyboard bigger which may help.
