Thunderbird not connecting to imap.1und1.de hence unable to retrieve emails
For some strange reason my thunderbird is unable to connect to my imap.1und1.de mail account and therefore does not retrieve new messages. It has been working fine for the past 4 years but suddenly I am getting this error message:
"Unable to connect The connection was refused when attempting to contact live.thunderbird.net.
The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Thunderbird is permitted to access the Web."
I restarted Thunderbird as well as my Mac several times but that did not help. I read in the FAQ that others had similar problems and were asked to send their trouble shoot information to determine and fix the problem. Please see below. Many thanks for your help!!!

Hi Agnes I also searched for similar cases but did not find this one. As mentioned in the posting, I installed the recommended malware app and it removed several programs. Now Thunderbird is back to normal. You're a life saver ! Many thanks for your help Markus
