Why does Thunderbird check for new messages each time an email is read or accessed? Using an outlook.com connection it checks each time one reads a message
Each time I read a message and delete, it then checks the server for new messages. When this occurs the next message to read in my folder is unavailable and I have to close it and wait. Sometimes I need to close and re-open Thunderbird

If you are using IMAP, the status of all mail is "synchronized" so opening the mail results in the "status" of the mail being checked with the server to ensure your version is the current one.
