Hey, that's correct.

If you can get the APK on to your phone you should be good to go. The APK can be found here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android

As is noted in the link above, the browser will not automatically update, so that's on you to do.

There are a few potential options for getting the APK on your phone, without the use of a browser:

  • USB drive (if your phone supports this, usually with an OTG cable)
  • wget / curl command from the terminal
  • Email
  • Bluetooth transfer

Also, F-droid (https://f-droid.org/) may be of some interest to you, as a privacy-friendly app store.

It hosts Fennec (https://f-droid.org/wiki/page/org.mozilla.fennec_fdroid) which is a version of Firefox without any proprietary (closed source) bits.
