I lost my sync password (mainly my firefox password) and read that if I choose to reset my password, I may lose some of my personal information (including history, bookmarks, and passwords). But since I had firefox app synced on my iphone, what should I do to preserve my data, and still be able to reset my password?

Hello kainai,

No worries! Here's the solution to your problem. Firefox stores all of your history, bookmarks, passwords, etc. in a folder called 'Profiles'. The link I am including tells you how to locate, backup, and restore your current profile into a fresh, new copy of Firefox. So you don't have to worry about losing a thing. I hope this helps.

Here's the link: Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles

That only applies to computer firefox. I started fresh and reinstalled my windows 10. But I still have my firefox app data synced on my iPhone. How do I make this work?

On your iPhone: Type about:preferences#security<enter> in the address bar. Look under Logins,

Note: For Firefox 56+ its; about:preferences#privacy Look under Forms & Passwords +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Turn on Remember Logins. To check the passwords you have listed, press Saved Logins.

I typed in as you suggested into the firefox address bar on my iPhone, but all it shows is a blank screen. I tried both security and privacy. Am I doing something wrong here?

Okay. On the Menu bar, try Tools > Password

Okay. On the Menu bar, try Tools > Password

From the menu bar (the three lines) I do not see the tools option; I see home, library, tracking protection, hide images, enable night mode and settings.

On the settings option though, there is a privacy section with logins, touch id and passcode etc. but other than that, I don't see it.

Since I don't know what my password for firefox sync account, I want to know if I do reset my password, will I lose my data that was already synced on the firefox app on my iPhone? Or do I have to disconnect from my sync account before resetting? Thank you

Resetting the sync password, or changing its e-mail, will remove all data from the servers.

This is a security feature. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/ive-lost-my-firefox-sync-account-information

  • I've lost my Firefox Sync account information - What to do
  • I’ve forgotten, or don't have access to, my Firefox Account email address

While all data is removed from the servers, the data on your computer is not affected.

So in the end, my data will be lost and nothing can be done?

You can re-sync afterwords.

I can re-sync after I reset my password and login on my pc and my data will still be there? Just to make sure.

Do I disconnect and then reset my firefox password, then resync from my device or how do I do this? Firefox has not made clear to me on what happens to my data on my firefox app iPhone when I reset my password.

It should not matter.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

But that is only the case if I had my Firefox sync account info on my computer, but recently I had my pc reinstalled and so lost my password for firefox. I managed to have my iPhone firefox app data. So here is the question, is it safe to disconnect on the firefox app on iphone and then reset my password?

The data on your computer(s) will not be affected.
