How to mitigate too many open tabs on Firefox Android

more options

I have way too many tabs open in Firefox on my Note9 - I tell myself I'll read them later (but even when I do, I just end up opening up more links to read later) and even though saving links to Pocket is easier than ever since switching from Chrome to Firefox (on both my smartphone and laptop), I still ended up with this massive number of open tabs on my Note9 (which is where I tend to read a lot, thus where I have the open tab problem). It's so bad now, I'm well beyond the little infinity symbol signifying over 100 open tabs (I couldn't even tell you how many I have open at this point) - but what's really concerning is I've noticed Firefox on my phone experiencing major sluggishness and actual crashes, which I can only attribute to being overburdened by the open tabs. I know the way to free up Firefox on my Android is to get rid of all these open tabs and get it back to running smoothly again - but before I give up and simply close them all (never to be seen again, at least not in a practical sense), I'm trying to find a quick and easy way to save them all at once before finally giving them all the axe. And while Googling the problem has revealed quite a few workarounds for this problem on the desktop version of Firefox, I can't seem to find anything to help me with my open tab problem for Android Firefox. For example, if all these open tabs were on my laptop, apparently I could Bookmark them all at once and save them to a folder I could create just for all these open tabs - but the same workaround doesn't apply to the Firefox browser on Android (there doesn't seem to be a "Bookmark All" option on Android's version of Firefox). I realize the Synced Tabs feature means I have access on my laptop to the list of open tabs on my Note9, but I can't find an option on my laptop's Firefox browser to open all the Synced Tabs from my Note9 at once and the number of open tabs makes it prohibitively time-consuming to open them one at a time. I've Googled my big buns off and can't seem to find anything helpful for my specific open tabs problem on Android's Firefox. This is really my last hope before I have to bite the bullet and simply close all the tabs, essentially losing them to the dust heap of my browser History - which ultimately means I won't see them again. Any help is very appreciated, but I realize it's a long shot so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high. If you have any questions or need anything clarified, just let me know.

Well, after a valiant but ultimately unfruitful effort searching for an answer - I actually found a workaround on my own. It's not exactly pretty and honestly, it would be better if Firefox for Android would just offer a "Bookmark All Open Tabs" option from within the browser on Android devices but until it does, this workaround did just fine for me. So I went back to my laptop and opened the sidebar for Synced Tabs from my Note9, trying to find some way to open all the tabs from my Note9 on my laptop at once. Make sure you open the Synced Tabs sidebar - you should see the device (in my case, my Note9 with a little phone-looking icon) with all its synced tabs listed beneath it. Right-click on the device name and it should open a little menu with the options "Open All in Tabs", "Manage Devices" and "Sync Now" - for this problem, we want "Open All in Tabs". If your problem is as out of hand as mine was, you'll click on "Open All in Tabs" and get a pop-up from Firefox warning you're about to open some ridiculous number of tabs all at once and this may slow things down (for me, it was over 1000 tabs). I said okay and off it went, attempting to open/load them all. I got worried because it was mostly frozen, with little flickers of movement here and there. I gave it some time and came back to it pretty much unchanged in terms of progress - so I took a deep breath and restarted my laptop. Now keep in mind, I don't know if my Firefox settings helped me here when I reopened Firefox once my laptop was restarted - the window with all 1000+ tabs opened up and this time, it was ready to go. Plenty of the tabs showed "Problem loading page" icons, but for this all I needed was to bookmark them, so I'm pretty sure that didn't matter. I went ahead and hit Ctrl+Shift+D (the keyboard shortcut which will Bookmark all open tabs in the window) and up popped a little window asking me where to save all the bookmarked tabs in my Bookmarks. Once I made a folder for them, I hit okay and then checked the bookmarks folder where I'd saved them - sure enough, there they all were. I was finally free to kill all the open tabs on my phone and I'm excited to go back to using Firefox for Android at its best. Hope this helps anybody else struggling with their Open Tabs problem (on Android Firefox).
